Paddle for Cancer

Something worth talking about.

Paddle for Cancer a day of Dragon Boat Racing organised by ESCA the English Speaking Cancer Association of Switzerland.



43 teams took part - each team of 16 paddlers (of which a minimum of 4 had to be female) and one drummer. A reserve of 3 made a total of 20 per team. Each team contributed a substantial sum - many of them corporate teams (some companies with more than one team) - some were just a bunch of friends who shared the contribution.

Each boat had an professional helmsperson, not part of the team, who also looked after the safety of the boat.

Two teams consisted of women who had had breast cancer - they sported pink T-shirts or wigs. One of these teams ("Breast Strokers") came second in the all-female event. Well done girls!
