Why Blog?

Why Blog when no one is listening?

I came to the conclusion that in Ibsen's "An Enemy of the People" the most important character isn't Stockmann, but rather Captain Horster. He says early on that he doesn't understand politics; he is the silent majority. Yet when the chips are down, he is the lone one to say No!

Aslaksen: The people assembled here tonight . . . declare that Dr Stockmann . . . is an enemy of the people . . .
(uproar)
Aslaksen: (shouting over the din) Is there anyone against this motion? Anyone against?
Horster: I am.
Aslaksen: One?

In our 2000 production, Horster was played by a delightful man who spent his life, and you might say gave his life, doing what he thought was right. I invite you to read a little more about Pekka Aro

At Tim Hall's blog you wrote

"Obviously a work of fiction. In real-life(TM) that line would read:
Person: They swear they have changed nothing."

I have a corollary based on my (many) years of experience:

"When a user says 'I swear...' you can be sure he/she is not telling you the truth".

I coudn't count the times when a user told me 'I swear...' (...I did not the things that the trace you are reading is telling you I did.)

Cheers.

Carlos.

DaPi, you have surprised me! I had not realized you were doing stage work. My 14-year-old son started a couple of years ago doing plays, and has taken to it like a fish to water. I had had aspirations myself when I was young (....seems I remember being young at one point anyway ;-D.....) but got sidetracked and never went back. So now I get to enjoy watching him perfect his craft.
But to get to the topic, who says no-one is listening? I hadn't realized you had a blog (or a website for that matter) until about a month ago when I stumbled across your homepage by accident. So, now I'm listening........and glad to see you posting again. Welcome back. :-D

bill, OracleDoc, Thanks for your comments.

Yes I know I have a small, select readership. :)

I was reflecting on the moral obligation to Blog even if no one reads it; to vote NO in the face of an overwhelming YES.

I guess I need to elaborate on my terse style - or restrict myself to Haiku.

Well Bill,

If you do a search on David Pittuck you'll see that this gentleman is gifted.

I'm glad that guys like David start speaking out (on blogs). These guys have experience that can tell us tales we'd so love to hear.

Same applies to you, Bill. I'm still waiting for your voice.

Well, my wife says I have a tendency to be blunt and tactless (and I don't disagree ;-D) so maybe blogging shouldn't be in my future. Besides, I don't feel like I have something that needs saying that badly yet. Maybe in a few years......

Meantime, I do agree that David is quite gifted. It's a pity though that he is waaaaay over there and I'm waaaaaay over here, so I'll most likely never have a chance to see him perform in person.
